Carrie’s cousin’s daughter was married on October 8 at the beautiful Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort. The air was warm and still during the ceremony, but by nightfall, brisk winds were blowing. Coincidentally, this was also the time that the winds fanned the flames of the devastating fires in Northern California.
We stayed in an apartment in Summerlin while we were in Las Vegas, about a half mile from a shopping area known as Tivoli Village. The weather was in the 80s, pleasant and dry enough to enjoy our daily walks.

One of our favorite Western views is the long road ahead of us just after we crest a hill. In about 10-15 miles, we crest another hill before dipping down along the the highway. Repeat. Before we know it, we have arrived at our destination.
After a night spent in Reno, and a visit to Jimmy Beans Wool, we traveled south along the Silver Trails in Nevada to Tonopah, site of the early 1900s era silver mines, the renovated Mizpah Hotel , and the Tonopah Historic Mining Park.

We spent the night in Tonopah at the renovated Mizpah Hotel, which was built in the early 1900s, coinciding with the silver mine activity. We also found a great Bar B Que place for dinner, with craft beers, The Tonopah Brewing Company.
We have had a relaxing time in this bucolic setting in Calistoga, CA, sitting out on our 2nd story deck eating dinner most nights at the foot of Mt. St. Helena, watching geese fly overhead and reveling in the pink sunsets. We’ve met international travelers staying in the Villa Mimosa B&B on the floor below us. The owners of our apartment, Ed and Polly, could not have been more accommodating. Their staff, Maria and Jason, were so friendly and helpful.
